old security system.

old security system.
So I was fiddling around with my car today and discoved the brain for the security system that the previous owner had installed. I always knew that the car had one since I found the horn in the engine bay, but I never knew what brand of system.
It's a Rattler 300 made by DEI
I know the thing is old as all hell and it's no longer hooked up since the wiring harness was disconnected from it.
I don't have the remote for it, but I was trying to decide if it was worth spending $30 on a new remote and reprogramming it to see if it still worked for a temporary security system until I can afford to get a 2 way paging system down the road OR should i just ignore the fact that its even there and just save up for the alarm that I really want?

Exactly,
which is why i said as long as nothing else is needed to get everything running.
They might tell you that you need another $30 chrage to reprogram the brain to the remote and then another $20 to check all of the sensors, etc.

RE: old security system.
I found the service and install manuals for the system online and downloaded the pdf's for them. The copyright on the manual said 2000...so.... It's old, but I'd imagine it should still work. I looked for the valet switch that goes with the system and found it. From what I read in the manual I just have to use the valet switch to program any new remotes and delete old remotes from the system. If it works, I plan on using it until I have the cash to buy a 2 way paging system and a bunch of different sensors.
