Default Speaker Setup

Currently my setup is:
Front- 6.5" Alpine Type-S
Rear- 5.25" Infinity
HU- Pioneer P5900IB

i am possibly wanting to hook up a 4 channel amp and upgrade the front to some 6.5" component Infinities. I would also be adding a mono amp with a 12" Type-R.

I am questioning this setup just a little.

1) Would I have any issues with dimming/power? Even with a cap?
2) With the 4-channel amp would I amp the front and rear?? And how exactly do I wire the speakers? Do I take the speaker wires coming from the HU to the amp back to the speakers??

Right now my system as it sits is pretty freaking loud...would you guys personally upgrade to component in front with 1 sub or leave the speakers as they are with 2 subs?

I work at Best Buy, am quitting, and I'm trying to rape the discount before I get out of the hell hole. Money really isn't an issue.

When you amp front and rear you don't connect the HU speaker leads to anything. Run RCA cables from the HU front and rear RCA outputs to the amp. Run speaker wires from the amp to each speaker.

I suggest simply unplugging the stock harness at each speaker, leave it disconnected. Install new speaker wires from the speaker to the amp. Then the stock harness is still live from the HU built in amp so you can just reconnect it to the speakers should you want to go back to no amp later.

I have a noob follow up question. On an 08 Ex Sedan, is there a factory amp for front and rear speakers? I hear conflicting reports. Just want clarification once and for all. Thanks.

It depends on how much RMS power you are running and how good your vehicle's electrical system is. Personally, I don't like capacitors, but I have seen in some instances where they help out a lot! If you play music with long drawn out bass similar to a test tone, a capacitor can actually work against you since the system will be busy trying to recharge the cap AND provide your amplifier with juice to play. If you are really concerned and running ungodly RMS power, I would suggest looking into a bigger alternator, a better battery, and upgraded wiring from your alternator to the battery and for your vehicle's ground. If you are running some serious power, then maybe you would want to consider adding an isolator and another battery in the trunk.

It depends... First you have to consider the location of the amp, next you have to consider how hard it is to run wires into a location such as your doors. I have had situations where I cheated and just tapped my amplifier speaker wires into the existing factory wires (i.e. hook amplifier speaker wires directly to the wiring harness versus hooking the head unit up to the speaker wires) and I have had cases where I totally ran new wires, drilled the doors to run them, etc.)

This is a personal preference. Is it loud enough for you, do you want more, etc? The good thing about component speakers is you can mount your tweeter up higher where you can hear it versus having your tweeters level with your ankles. The bad thing about component setups is some don't sound so great when you place the tweeters a good distance away from the woofer. This turns into one of those the sound is in the eye of the beholder situations!
