ORIGINAL: 03civiclxcoupe

i said if u get an amp...with an amp u can turn the headunit up all the way bcuz then the head units internal amp isn't being used...and whatever clipping there will be won't be noitceable
Umm if you turn the HU to full volume it will send a clipped signal to your external amp.

i think you are both right...

If you use the High Level imput (speaker outputs from headunit to amp) to your amp usually you get clipped sound when its all the way up...

But with low level outputs (RCA's to amp) you dont have that problem.. with both the head units i had and have you can turn it up all the way and the amp can be turned down and it still sounds just as clear as it would with the amp up and the head unit at turned down.

i think that made since?

If you tune your amp right, you won't need to turn the HU up all the way anyway. You can set your gains to blow your ears off at 1/2 volume if you really want to, but if you have an idiot friend that will get in and crank it he might blow the speakers in that case.

I have never heard a HU that sounded very good over 3/4, even my new one, which is older, has the big onboard amp 60 per channel, and it sounds like crap if its pushing max. Amps make a huge difference, snag a cheaper end 4 channel and be done with it. Alpine has some great amps, I love their 4 channels.
