Standard head unit removal - 2003 civic - dashboard gear shift

Default Standard head unit removal - 2003 civic - dashboard gear shift

I apologise in advance if this is already covered somewhere (feel free to point me at it) I really have searched and searched but can't find it.

Any way, I've just bought a 2003 3 door civic (Irish spec) and I love it but I want to replace the stereo with an after market one. All the instructions I can find for removal of the head unit are for the standard dash (where the gear change is on the floor) but my car has the gear change in the dash itself, the instructions I've found say they don't apply to my model.

My question is: how do I remove the head unit?
Am I better off getting a Honda dealer to do it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
