Default Stereo woes

I bought a harness to wire up my cd player into my 94 civic, everything is wired properly, but the unit won't power up. When I plug the stereo into the car(with the ignition off) I can hear the cd player power up a small motor (I think, that's what it sounds like), but when I turn the ignition switch, nothing happens........

Fuses are good, and I'm out of ideas. Anyone have any input????

It's more like Central CA, really. I'm in Cambria, which everyone associates us with Southern CA, but down south isn't my cup of tea, so I stick to the North.

The thing about the stereo is, when I plug the stock tape player back in, it works fine. Damn.

I remember I had the same problem with mine but it was so long ago I can't remember what I did to fix it. Are u 100% sure that the unit is good and what brand is it. Do u know how to use a multimiter to check for continuity.
I would definatly check if u connected the ground and +12V right. I would definatly check ground insert one lead of multimiter into ground of wiring harnes and another one touch any metal that is grounded. You should have continuity.
