stupid amp question!!!
many ppl will prolly look at this and think i am a complete moron lol.. but do u need an amp when u have sub woofers?.. and what does it do and stuff?.. please explain!.. im new at this!
An amp is a necessity for subwoofers if you want them to sound good. Say you buy a subwoofer that is rated for 1000 watts maxor 500 watts RMS. When you buy an amp, you should buy one with an output as close to the RMS number as possible, in this case 500 watts. Don't pay attention to the max wattage numbers, only the RMS number. Get an amp with an output as close to the RMS number as possible.
To answer your question, an amplifier takes an electrical signal and amplifies it, or makes it bigger resulting in more power to the speaker(s)

no prob..I would say I have a "decent" system and I have:
1 rockford fosgate woofer....$200
1 480 watt amp.................$200
ported box for woofer.........$100
Basically you can get a good sounding subwoofer setup for about $500-600. Remember, as long as you get the amp's wattage as close to, or even a *little* over the RMS rating of the woofer, your system will pound.

haha alright thanks!.. 2 bad thats gonna be a little bit over the price budget.. ill prolly start off with a crappy system then.. but better than nothing.. you know?.. and do u have any pics of your setup?
I'll see if I can post pics when I get home
If you want a real cheap setup
look at a bazooka ela500.1 amp, 100 bucks and plays well
an alpine type E 12 inch sub, 70 at most
box, 20 bucks for wood and build it yourself (mdf wood)
