trunk vibrations
well the most important thing is FIND OUT WHATS RATTLING!!!
some rattles that sound HORIBLE can be the smallest thing! so push and pull all over to find out what is ACTUALY making the noise!!!!!!!
typicaly 92-00 civics rattle mainly due to the liscence plate the bottom is not bolted any way and the top is spaced out which makes it rattle even more. so bust out some camper shell foam and put 2 strips behind the liscence plate. one on top and one on bottom, and preferably what i like to use on the bottom. i like to use a hot glue gun to stiffen up the bottom mount to make it more solid so it doesnt flap around.
if you dynomat just the liscnce plate it wont help any at all!! i tried.
2nd most rattling spot is the liscence plate TRIM PANEL.....
at least those are the 2 highest issue points that ive have delt with personaly.
other posible points are the rear spoiler.... due to old roted foam gaskets, then simply replace the gaskets on both sides.
and if you have a high milage car.... your trunk lids internal bracing might be busted loose from the outter skin, then you need to reattach it with some kinda of bonder/sealer.... alittle harder since you need to remove the trunk lid to access the bracing and to hold the skin to the braces by simply laying it upsidedown on the ground, it also helps the bonding stuff you use since gravity will hold it against those 2 parts while it dries.... that way it doesnt just run away and drip everywhere before it dries!
and the worst interior rattle that ive found is that dam rear deck against the glass.... that ones a tuff fix! the lid is held in by plastic clips and to pull the rear deck lid panel you have to remove the side rear panels and back seats.
to fix that you can try some PEEL and SEAL, its like dynomat... but cheap and can be bought at menards. its used for repairing gutter leaks... simple stuff just peel off the backing and apply and rub in just like dynomat.
i havent fixed mine yet.... im going to wait until i get some nice 6x9s since pulling that rear deck is a PITA. im going to try and use bolts/nuts glued to the rear deck so i can actualy CLAMP it down to the metal deck. im also going to use alittle peel and seal all over the rear deck as well to hopefully prevent any rattling.
