I just bought a 99 Civic EX and it came with an Alpine alarm system. I got an alpine 8426a remote. After some days trying to program it, the remote finally worked, but I'm not sure if it was the programming that did it, or the fact that it was already coded and I fiddled with the remote internals. I actually used a small flat head screw driver to turn something on the remote chip and it finally chirped while I was pressing the button.

My actual question is, am I able to pick up any remote, specifically a spare viper rpn: 479v/p/c 2(66) codes FCC ID: EZSDEI478 remote my brother had and program it with the alpine alarm system built into my car.

 

no you cant DEIs remotes will not be compatible with alpines remotes the best thing i can suggest is call alpine and order a replacement remote , this is one of many reasons that alpine stop making alarm units .
