Default Cleaning engine?

Alright i've been looking at the pics of a lot of the rides and under the hood is amazingly clean! ( that is compared to mine) do yall take the whole engine apart and clean each little part or what also i've noticed that some of yall have taken off the header cover that screws on to it does that not mess anything up?

just cover any kind of electrical stuff and filters under the hood and then go to the carwash and put the carwash on tire/engine bay cleaner and clean it out a good deal...

I first scrub every thing with degreaser after rinsing it all off I use an air hose to blow all the water off then I use paint gloss on the painted parts like my inner fenders, fire wall and underneath of the hood you might have to whip it off twice use a different towel the second time then use armor all or something equivalent on all your rubber and plastic parts you can also use a tire shine which looks good but dirt sticks to easer.

Well, it's mainly the distributor, the filter and the throttle body (or carburetor if you have one) that you have to be careful with. Cover them with plastic bags and use rubber bands to seal the bags. Use something like Chomp or any degreaser to lift the grease off the surface. Then you can rinse it with water. Don't use pressure water because you may get water into the fuel system.

I just use simple green full strength to clean my engine bay. I use low pressure over the electrical parts and high pressure on the block and bay walls. Never had a problem on my car, however, on my wife's car I cannot do this. Different levels of caution are to be used depending on each individual car. After washing, I then go through and scrub everthing manually with an old microfiber, waxing under the hood and bay walls and anything else with a painted surface. Then I follow up with Armour All on the rubber parts and hoses. Toothbrushes come in real handy for engine bay scrubbing every 6 months or so. Once you get it generally clean you don't have to go to such extreme measures.

Milberndoesit, don't use full pressure on any parts that may have electrical components. You can hand scrub around those parts later. It's generally safe on the bay walls and block. Everything else... proceed with caution. I used full pressure on my wife's engine one time and it skipped and sputtered for a week. I never heard the last of it.

Also, there are some good engine bay cleaners that do a good general cleanup without all the hand scrubbing if you don't like that kind of thing.
