Default Bad ground?

OK, I was cleanin the civics engine, and it was pretty much dry, so i took it out for a spin. I pulled over to look under the hood and make sure everything was in order. So I popped the hood, and was holdin it up with my right hand. I started feeling around to see if anything was still wet, and i touched the alternator, and it gave me a HUGE shock. Do I have a bad ground somewhere, or am i just an idiot for touching the alternator and hood together with the car on?

go onto ebay and get a cheap ground kit i put one on my car and it wouldnt do anything like that and it stabilized the engine at speeds to a LOT better.
