Ok guys this is a subject that I don't know a whole hell of a lot, my bank 1 O2 sensor needs to be replaced, and since later on I will need a wideband O2, I'm looking to get an a/f r controller (like a UEGO), but I'm a lil confused, can I use AEMs external UEGO controller and hook up ANY gauge to it?? and do I need an EMS to use the controller? or can I install the controller and measure the A/F without an EMS.

Trying to get this order in tonight.

Not sure about the AEM unit but you can run a wideband on any gas car. You dont have to have a tunable computer to use a wideband, just the wideband and a wideband O2 sensor. You will have to weld in a second (actually third) O2 bung for the new O2 sensor.

ok so the wideband O2 sensor will not fit in the regular O2 bung? no problem, and yeah now I know I can use a wideband without having a tunable computer.

Ok I see your point. But I'm a lil confused, your saying adding a wideband would mean I would have to run 3 O2 sensors [before-cat, wideband, and after-cat], my understanding is that the wideband would take the place of the before-cat O2 sensor (or is this only when using an EMS).

 

I guess what I'm really asking is can I splice into the wideband to send to the ECU and use the UEGO gauge?

 

as of now you have 2 bungs welded for the 02 sensors. You want to take one out, and put the wideband there. Then you need another bung so you can put that 02 sensor back.

 

So not possible to splice into the wideband so the ECU can get the readings it needs.

I've been reading up on the Bosch wideband O2 and they have been used in place of the bank 1 O2 sensor on a few different cars, theoretically is it possible to use the wideband as the "before cat" O2 sensor. Therefore only having 2 sensors instead of 3. If I splice the black wire(signal) into the signal wire of the wideband and splice the gray(ground) into the wideband ground wire, the I should be able to splice one of the white(heater) wires into the heater wire of the wideband and just ground out the other white(heater) wire. Theoretically this should allow the ECU to gather it's readings from the wideband while still sending signal to the gauge.
