Default Grounding Issue

I'm currently installing a Jackson Racing VTEC Controller and i need a good grounding spot. I tried one coming off the ECU, but it didn't work. The car ran but not the VPAC. So, where is a grounding place (inside the firewall), and what is the best way to ground it?

You can usually find a good grounding place under the dash someplace. Just look for a brace or something that's fastened to the dash.

behind the gauge cluster is a fairly large, unpainted, metal frame
