Default leave 98 civic obd1 with swap or make obd2?

ok i have a 98 civic ex, im putting in a b18a1, i have everything i need, i have the wireing harness from the b18a1 and ecu. (as well as mounts, hydro-cable conversion, shift linkage) is there any downside of just swaping that right into my civic? does it effect passing inspection or emissions or anything like that? i live in mass if it makes a difference. or do i have to change it to obd 2 for some reason?

kinda need info asap if you could help that would be a total help. need to get this thing done asap, car hydrolocked the stock motor and need this fixed!

and yes i have searched for this and seen people do it either way with there car, i just dont know what the difference in the end will be... thanks in advance

If I were you. Ide try and stay obd1. In mass, they not longer do emission test for obd1. They just do safety check and that's it. That's my opinion. (I don't know anything technical about the motor. But I always find emission test to be a pain)

iight nvm. i read the year wrong. you are going to need obd2 since your car is a 98. they are going to check it and if you dont have it you wont pass

Depends on your state. In KY, anything goes. We have no emission testing. Id hate to live somewhere that does all that.

in MA they just changed it. We no longer have emission testing for cars 95 and below. all 96+ are connected threw the obd2 reader and checked. which i guess is more strict then previous emission testings. but all 95 and below have to worry about is safety test. if those pass then your good.

So hes stuck in OBD2. Carb legal parts always cost more too. That sucks.
