Are you sure the idle problem is due to a faulty IACV?

What is the Make and Model of the car?

Ok, 1500 at start-up, esp if the weather is cold, is not high at all. the car is designed to idle high upon startup so the engine will heat up faster.

As for cleaning it, its not hard to fix the IACV if thats faulty. My 99 civic ex had this prob until the other day.

1. take off the iacv

2. take off the sensor

3. take off the plate on the other side and remove the 2 plasctic pieces and spring from themiddle

4. ontop of the IACV there are 2 holes. there should be a valve inside that slides around the inside of the IACV. Spray the inside with b12 ($4 at napa). If the valve doesnt slide extreemly freely, use b12 and leverage till you get it to. Dont be stingy with the b12, its only $4!

5. spray the inside with b12 and spin the metal piece that was inside the sensor with your finger.

6.3 put everything back together and enjoy the smooth idle and increased MPG!

Other potential causes for your idle problem include a need to adjust (1) the idle speed or (2) the throttle cable or a problem with (3) IAT sensor or (4) a dirty air filter.
