Default What ECU to buy

O.k. I have electrical problems with my 2000 Civic Ex 2door coupe it has the d16y8 motor with a 5speed tranny. I was told I need a new ecu. I know nothing about ecu's I know i'm looking for a hondata but when I looked at there site I was lost. So I need your guys help to point me in the right direction of what ecu I need from hondata I'm looking for the best aftermarket one possible. So any help will be great I really need to get my car back on the road I can't afford to drive my truck with these gas prices.

I myself havn't actually experienced a hondata chip, but i have researched them a little bit. and in fact you have the exact same model car I have. the best chip they offer for the ex is the s300. It's actually really complicated, and if you arn't really experienced with engines and their components I wouldn't get the s300, unless you have the dealertune it. Reguardless, the s200 and s300 have to be installed at the hondata dealer. The difference between the two is basically the s300 can be tuned by a laptop, and has quite a few more goodies. If you go to their site you can download the program that is used to tune your ecu(s300). then you only have to get the chip installed. the s200 comes with an interface box that is seprate from the ecu and adjusts the main parts of the engine... rev limiter, injecters, shift light, vtec, launch control, nitrous, etc... that also has to be tuned by the dealer. the s300 is about $600 if i can remember right and the s200 is about $300? hopefully this helps..

Oh, and for your ecu problem... I'm in the same boat as you right now. in a couple years when im finished with college i'll be able to tell you. but you do need a good working ecu if you're planning on getting a hondata chip or performance package.

are you running force induction? Because there is no used in wasting lots of money on Hondata and besides you need a p28 ecu (from tge 5th gen civics) which your car doesn't have in order to run hondata and also convert to obd1.

No I don't have any force Induction. I'm just looking for any replacement for my ecu right now but I want it to be a aftermarket one. I really need to get my car back on the road.

get a p28 ecu from phearable, its 270 shipped for the ecu and conversion harness..

if you have i/h/e and it looks like you have a intake mani, he will make them perform to there peak and you will probably gain about 10whp just from the new ecu

but its a little pricey, but i bought one cuz he knows his ****

Buy a stock ecu for a 99/00 civic ex. There is absolutly no reason for a aftermarket, obd1, chipped, or altered ecu.
