Default Wideband o2 Questions

I've researched quite a bit, but havre some questions about wideband o2 meters. I know they plug into the original o2 sensor bung and give you an accurate reading, but does it plug into the laptop you are tuning with, or is it just a gauge that you read before and after you make tuning adjustments? I was looking at this: http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/products/lm1.phpand noticed it included various cords. Can anyone give me in pretty simple terms how it works?

EDIT: and also on this site: http://www.forparts.com/BoswidebandO2diag.htmit talks about "new contorl strategies made possibnle by the wideband o2 sensor". So does the wideband actaully make adjustments to the A/F ratio, or does it just monitor it?

the wideband hooks up to your ecu and then you have a cord that comes off the ecu which plugs into your laptop.

the tuner just looks at the wideband as to see whats going on because its more accurate than a narrowband
