simplest motor/trans swap into 91 hatch
Which engine tranny(5speed/cable)swap is the least amount of headaches and simplest drop in for a 91 hatch?? Big hp gain not necessary but would be ok - D's B's ZC's- What 's the east way out? Daughters car needs motor and I want to change from auto to 5 speed. Also any suggestions where to find the motor/trans you are recomending? Whats price range?? Thanks Toby

RE: simplest motor/trans swap into 91 hatch
well cheap would be another d series engine. you could get a d16a6 engine which had 116 hp and came stock in 88-91 si's, or a d16z6 which had 126 hp and came in 92-95 civic ex and si models. and you would be best to get an si cable tranny from a 89-91 car, (88 had a different clutch and stuff than 89-91, i believe it was smaller)
with these d series engine you will need to add mpfi, there is write ups on it all over the net, its not that complicated just takes a little wiring and soldering.
and with the sohc vetec d16z6 you need to add vtec. now you can use an rpm switch to activate it and keep it obd0, but the better way to do this is to convert to obd1 and use the factory p28 ecu designed for that engine. converting isn't hard at all, just adding a few wires and changing a few plugs. (and if you use the obd1 fuel injectors you will not need a resister box, but obd0 ones will)
and the price for one of these swap is less than 1000 for everything needed if you shop around and get decent prices on everything
