first id check the head, see if its clean with no bent valves or anything, for a rebuild kit on the tranny ive seend hydr b16 trannys go for 450, so i would go with just another trans because would not want to get into the mess of a tranny rebuild.
As far as rebuilding the head, why not go performance while your at it?

Well before all that, does it start? If so check compression, check to see if the trans grinds at all. That transmission is gold with the LSD in it, if it doesnt grind you should keep it. As for the rest of the engine, the only machining you will need to do if any is a hone. If your compression is good, then you should be fine. Take a look in the head, you may need to get a few things reset in there. Now if you want to get performance parts in the engine, you dont have to worry about all that, just replace the parts. As for a rebuild kit, I have no idea, you might have to buy the parts as you go along.

the tranny is good. only the engine needs rebuild. the motor starts and runs it has a knock. I was thinking that some performance would be a good idea.
