Default 98 civic d16y8

ok heres the deal i blew the motor in my crx and im looki9ng at buying this 98 civic... looks good an all but i dont kno anything about the d16y8.. so my question is, is the motor a good one and what kind of specs for hp am i looking at... the guy is wanting $3500 for it it has 145k sounds like he is kinda old but the car is in perfect shape.. im used to working on 92-95 gen cars even my crx has a d15b7 out of a 92 how much diff is there between these year?

Wikipedia is your friend
"D16Y8 - VTEC * Found in
o 1996-2000 Honda Civic EX (US)

o 1996-1997 Honda del Sol Si

+ Bore and Stroke : 75 mm × 90 mm (3.0 in × 3.5 in)
+ Rod Length : 137 MM
+ Rod/Stroke : 1.52
+ Compression : 9.6:1
+ Valvetrain : SOHC 4 valves per cylinder

It's a common motor, really nothing to get excited about (unless built!). 98 Civic EX, stock everything, 145k miles, perfect body (no dents, scratches or anything) is definitely worth at least $3000. I would just make sure that the timing belt/water pump was done. They usually need replacing at 95K or so.
What color is the car you are looking at? 5 speed?

d16y8 is a good all around motor for anything. Daily driver, turbo, build... Lots of parts laying around the internet
