Default 99 Honda EX - Knocking Noise

So...

The story is this. I've had this CEL on for awhile now, and seems to go off every once in awhile.. and then go back on. oddly.

Got the code pulled awhile ago from a mechanic whom I could trust, said the Cat was going bad... (again.)

So I took it back to the place who I got the cat from, and he said it was going bad because of a bad o2 sensor. Got it looked at from someone else, and they confirmed a bad o2 sensor as well.

I've been still driving it, not having the money to replace both the o2 sensor and cat, and the car has been starting to sound worse and worse.

First it was a winding sound, and turned to a knocking sound..

I noticed that under 3k rpm you could hear the knocking, but as soon as you pass 3k, it would go away.

Any ideas?

i just replaced both o2 sensoners, but they never made a knocking noise. it just bogged down even wheni pushed the gas pedal it would hesitate to go. also i only got 9-10 miles a gallon on gas which sucked. see if they will reset your computer, to see if it will throw the light again

So... to make this quick...

My car died Sunday afternoon, it slipped out of gear, and then the car died and refused to start back up. Had it towed to the nearest mechanic whom I could trust.

Monday morning, they looked at it, and they just got done today.

Timing belt tensioner got loose, and eventually the timing belt came off a bit, no damage to the engine though.

That's a relief, that could have been bad news for you, congrats on the fix. And a note, when one of the oxygen sensors go bad, it causes the fuel mixture to be way off causing the motor to run rough overall.

thats crazy i also had to replace the timing belt tensioner last year. thank god it didn't mess up my motor for the time being. and yeah the 02 sensors were bad to causing me to only get about 10 miles to a gallon of gas. needles to say that sucked really bad while gas prices were up to $5.00
