The unfortunate thing is that there is also no way of telling how many miles are on the engine itself. so it is just hit or miss with it. wether it be from your friend or from a supplier. good luck

it should be a direct drop in. i am still researching on it myself but as far as i know it will use the same motor mounts, and tranny mounts. shifter linkage. the only thing i am wondering about is the axles.

Also $1000 is a little pricey i think, you can get a complete swap for about $700 from jdmracingmotors.com and it includes every thing but axles and shifter linkage linky
