Default Building up a B20

i have a few questions about building a powerful engine. if i get a B20 (the displacenet for low end torque) engine and swap the head with a GSR or Type-R head and is it possible to swap B18 pistons with B20 pistons or are they the samething. next thing is i want to run boost on this engine i already have a turbo out of and Eagle Talon if i use that it is only going to be for a short period of time. i want to know if it is safe to use the B18 psitons and a stock head gasket. which trasmission should i use GSR, Type-R or Si

the other possible option is a B18 or B16 with a stroker to 2.0L or 2.2L and a turbo
this is for when i find a 1996-2000 Civic 2 Door coupe

That is all fine and good but in my opinion i would start with a JDM H22A and then boost that. That engine already has the torque and 200 hp. it is slightly heavier but it could be compensated for. and don't waste your time with that T25 ***** turbo. Get at least a T3 and don't skimp on fuel and fuel management. i think it would take you a lot further in the end.

that'd be badd lol theres a kid in town here with a EG hatch and its got a h22A in it, fully built and has darton sleeves lol tractions an issue right now lol

personally i'de go with a b18c5 if you like high revving engines , the h22 is a lower reving engine but like clean98 said it makes alot of power and torque, another very good starting platform

your best bet for swapping pistons is to buy aftermarkter forged and dished ones to handle all the boost you can throw, along with forged connecting rods. and balance the whole rotating assembly. if you plan on a turbo, go with a ls tranny because it has the longer gear ratios and lower final drive which is good for a boosted engine

i read in honda tuning that the stock aluminum sleeves in the h series are weak, so more than likely you'll prolly want to consider darton sleeves. the h series block is weaker b/c of the aluminum which is encorporated into the pistons and rods are all aluminum. the h22's pistons arent very hard to junk

i know for sure that honda tuning mag recently did a build up on an h series using mahle pistons (not sure about rods) i'll look for the mag and article and give you more info.

all are good arguments. it really comes down to what you like. on one hand the H22A would be a cheaper start than the ITR motor. But the tranny and build of the ITR mite be worth it too. I would go for the H22A..the euro type-r blue top H22 would be great platform and comes with a LSD. A B20 is much weaker than an H22A and traction can easily be attained with good tires and suspension.

personally...id get a GSR with an SiR head and an ITR tranny...but thats just me. thatd be what id get if i were going turbo. plus the GSR intake cam and ITR exhaust cam if you can get ahold of teh ITR cam when you pick up the tranny.. thatd be a sick car.

B20 VTEC isn't a particularly strong boost motor without some nice internal buildage. I3unny's idea is much better.

And the LS and CRV motors DO have different bores (the CRV is bigger by 1 or 2 mm).
