I'll be getting my turbo kit sometime in September (Edelbrock Perf X for my 98 EX or Greddy, not sure which yet) and am wondering what camshaft I would work best for me. I'd like to stick with Skunk 2 (have their int. mani and t/b - very nice IMO), but I have heard that they're not good for turbo setups. I think both of the turbo kits come setup to run somewhere between 6 and 8 psi, and that's what I'll be sticking with. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

 

Take a look at Crower cam's, they do a couple of turbo grind's.

 

Most people run the stocker. With turbo, you want as little overlap as possible and most cam upgrades are upgrades in that specific area. IMO you would be better served spending that money elsewhere for now.

 

I see....appreciate all the info. This leads me to my next question: This might sound st00pid, but would an adjustable cam gear work with a stock camshaft? If so, would it benefit me at all (aside from looking nice under the hood)?? Thanks again.

 

Adj. cam gears are actually useful even on a stock cam. Obviously much more useful on aftermarket cams, but good for 2-3Hp just the same. The onyl problem is that you are not gonna notice 2-3Hp with the "butt-dyno," so unless you are getting dyno tuned, there is no way you will be able to find the sweet spot. I mean, you could guess with a couple of degrees of advance, but guessing with cam timing is not the smartest or least dangerous thing on the planet.

 

Alrighty....I'll go ahead and stick with the stock cam, but get an adj. sprocket...there's a local place that can gimme a dyno tune. Maybe it's not really worth it considering what I have on the car right now, but I'm curious to see what I'm making just the same. Thanks for all of the tips, everybody.
