Default D15B Vtec

I have a 2000 Honda civic Lx automatic ( Dont tell me i'm wasting my time) i'm looking into getting a D15B Vtec pretty soon. I was wandering if I had to change out the transmisson or can I just keep my old one. Also if I do get it do i buy performance parts for the CRX or the LX model if you know what I mean. I hope i'm not confusing anyone on that. I'm a noob yes but a buddy of mine thinks you cant make a automatic honda fast and I want to prove him wrong. He has a 91 prelude stock. If i were to get this engine could I beat him or no?

You don't have to change the transmission. Which D15B VTEC are you looking at? OBD1 VTEC, or OBD2 3-stage VTEC?

And I don't know what you mean about buying parts for a CRX... the D15B VTEC didn't come in a CRX.

You said not to tell you, but you really have to accept the truth. You are wasting your time worrying about power in an automatic Civic. Honda automatic transmissions are weak as hell. They lose way more power through the drivetrain due to the nature of the torque converter, and when you give them too much power they blow up. You can make your engine very powerful, but the automatic transmission can't handle the power. That is the problem.

What kind of Prelude are we talking about? What trim level, and is it automatic or manual?
