we all just didnt jump into cars and know everything the first time. Its cool man dont worry about it. Just start with a simple, Header/Intake/Exhaust to start with. Just look around the forum and the project sections on how to do somethings. Honda usualy repeats a lot of stuff with there cars, so its not like every year they remake every part of there cars 100%. now the d17 is a little bit different from the d15(1.5Ls) and the d16(1.6L's). The d17 can actualy use some of the same valvetrain as the d16z6, d16y8, d16y7's. Anything you wonder about feel free to ask man, when in doubt ask and you will get a answer pretty quick

Well, im going to be honest. You don't have the sprortiest car. 1.7( not one of the fastest honda engines) 2001+ harder to find mods for it. and an Auto. Im not sure if you should try to mod your car at all. But if you really wanna. A SRI (short ram air intake) or a CAI (cold air intake) would help. Aswell as a header (exhuast manifold) and a Catback exhuast.

RE: How can I make my Civic faster?
here's some options if you want to be faster:
1) swap a vtec head from a d17a2 (don't attempt this since you're completely new to cars)
2) turbo your car (don't do this either, since you're new)
3) swap in a k20 (don't do this either)
4) get a new car (this you could do)
intakes and what not will not make your car faster than it currently is. intake/header/exhaust will cost you upwards of $1000 if you buy quality parts and the gains will be neglectible. a vtec head is the better choice since you'll get like 14 ish hp for ~$500, but in the long run, this also isn't worth it.
if you want to make driving more enjoyable - that is, not necessarily faster - get the intake and exhaust and be done. you'll make some noise, you'll have improved throttle response, and you can be cool to your friends and say "hey buddy, i modded my car."
