Question how to tell the diff from a b16 b18 b20

i may have already posted this im not sure but what are some physical features of a b16 b18 b20 so that when you look at the motor you can tell what it is by looking at key features that the other motors dont have i know that b20 will have a b16 head on it to make it vtec but to be honest i just look at the valve cover oh can a b18 or b16 vtec valve cover fit on a b20 thats what i read on youtube?

B16 has one kind of valve cover, B18 has two different kinds, B20 has another different kind.

Block number for a D series is in exactly the same location.

On the D series SOHC VTEC, the spark plug holes are near the exhaust side (front of the car). That's not totally conclusive because there is for example the D16Y7 non-VTEC with spark plug holes in the front. But when the plugs are toward the back like on your D15B2, it's definitely a non-VTEC head.

You might have to wipe the grease and grime away to read your block number.
