Default Im stumped.

Ok, so heres my problem. I swapped my thermostat out for a 160 degree one last week. I started the car and it ran like poop, so i swapped the stocker back in. Now the car is acting up. When i start it it goes up to like 2500rmps, then after a few mins it goes from 0-2000rpms until you drive it. It idles at like 1500-2000 until its warm, oh and its definetly taking longer to warm up than usual, and the heat doesnt seem to be working 100% during this time. After 15 mins of driving everything is normal thou. Do you think that when i threw the 160 in that the ECU retarted the timing a little? And now i got the stocker in and the timeing is off? Can the timing be retarted from swapping in a colder thermostat? SNIPER did u experience this? I tried re-setting the ECU and nothing different happend. WTF is going on? someone help a guy out here! Thanks guys.

sounds like you might have air in the system. bleed it out and see if that helps.

Did your weather recently turn to **** -- maybe drop down to 10 degrees like it did here -- and could that have anything to do with it??

Okay, now can i just turn the "bleeder" nut, and then tighten it? I was thinkin about getting my coolant system flushed anyways @ a shop, theyll do it for 35$.

oh and sacs......will running a 160 thermo hurt my car? It tends to run a tad hot after seein 7-8 psi on the highway.....when i slow down it runs pretty hot. So adding the 160 should let the coolant into the rad earlier thus cooling the motor more right? I have heard that the 160 will cause the car to run more rich......this true?

Doesn't the themostat (it might be another part in the cooling system) have a jiggle valve that releases air (or something like that).

nah the thermo has a spring that opens when heated, and allows the coolant to go from the block to the rad so it can cool down.

I just looked it up in my book. The book says "A thermostat jiggle valve is a small valve fit into a hole formed in the thermostat. It helps prevent air pockets from forming in the housing." But i don't know if all cars and all thermostats have one.
