Prepping a B16A2

Default Prepping a B16A2

My friend asked me today, what he could do to improve a completly stock B16A2 to make it more turob friendly. He has limited funds, around $750, so what should I tell him?

If he really wants to turbo the B16A2, he should put a thicker head gasket on it to lower the compression ratio.

I would maybe look into upping the displacement to 1.7 or 1.8 too.

To lower the CR, I would recommend using GSR pistons (USDM P72-A0 = ~9:1; JDM P72-00 = ~9.5:1) or USDM ITR pistons (P73-A0 = ~9.75:1).

I guess what he's really worried about is having to beef up the engine, stuff like camshafts and cam gears. If he doesnt have to, he doesnt want to spend the money right away.

if he means stuff like that, i would just do a type r exhaust cam, exhaust, and a high flow cat. hopefully under 750. shop around, a used exhaust would be a good find.

i dont want to say ne thing against sacicons cuz hes the man, but my friend had type r cams in his civ before he put his turbo in, but when he actually did, he took em out and put the stock ones back in.. or otherones i forget. but why would u pick the type r cam sacs?

Another question, i dont know a whole lot about honda motors but am learning alot now that i have one, but how must boost can a b16 handle of stock internals, and arent hondas notorius for thin cylinder walls?

You can get by running about 7 or 8 psi on stock.
