Replacing stock engine
#11
Right on everyone. The info is reallly gonna help me. One MORE question though. My EX is an AUTO(lame), I want to know if it's possible to swap in a 2003 S-2000 engine and tranny(manual) into my civic. What are some of the components I am gonna have to remove?? I have a great price on an S-2000engine and tranny.

S2000 engines are rear wheel drive. It is possible but with lots no tons of fabrication I dont suggest it. Just get a manual tranny for your car and swap it that is much much easier than swapping an s2k motor in and if you want boost might as well get lsd in the tranny at the same time.

A good torque convertor is a great place to start, especially if you plan on boosting it. Not sure about any valve body, or computer component upgrades on these lil trans.... Now....if it was a TH350 or 400, or a c4 or c6, or even a TF727 I'd know aaalll about it lol...

There's no point in upgrading the torque converter when the same amount of money would get you a manual swap.
But anyway, if your car is stock BigDadE84 and you haven't made really any investments in it, it would be more cost effective to just sell it and find another 92-95 EX that already has a manual transmission. I used to have an automatic, but it wasn't worth doing the swap when I could just sell it and get a manual for pretty much free overall.

im going to have to agree with v8diet, the B18c5 is probably the easiest swap, ive been looking into it myself and found out you can go with b16a2 which is a little cheepier. But, i dont think its worth it, im going with the b18c5 and they were running about 3000-5000. full kit came with ecu, motor, trans, harness, pretty much everything you need out of the old car. look on tokyomotors.com

+1 ^^ If you have 5K to play with I'd find a b18 with like 60+K on it or around there for like 3000-4000 than with the extra $ build the internals to be bullet proof. then later on down the road you can boost the hell out if it no prob. :-)

type r's are way to much money Imo. b16a would be the way to go they are almost half the price and only 15 hp less. but if you have the money go ahead I guess. I still say build your current motor and get a manual tranny convert it boost it tune it and you will have a very fun fast car and you will learn alot along the way.
