shifter linkage question

shifter linkage question
is there a difference between the JDM GSR shifter linkage and the USDM GSR shifter linkage? i went to bolt up the brand new shifter linkage tonight and the "top" bar (the ones that holds the shifter and doesn't move) is about 2 inches to short and has clearance issues. help please
