Default 98 civic dx, turbo, overbored

Just bought this beauty Cars for Sale: 1998 Honda Civic DX Hatchback in Harrodsburg, KY 40330: Hatchback Details - 321656209 - AutoTrader.com

The 1st owner pimped it out and raced it on the track, the 2nd owner owns a dyno shop. The 2nd owner says to turn the idle down to increase mpg, and cam type R would help horsepower, torque, and mpg (about $300-500, depending on the brand of type R). Oh yea, only premium gas allowed in this car.

What should I do, I'm a little overwhelmed...

Well, I would have said, DONT buy it. Build a car, you will learn as you go on. You didn't just jump into the deep end of a pool when you didn't know how to swim, right?

Where does the ad say there is a turbo installed?? I have no idea what you mean by "depending on the brand of Type R".

Premium gas since that is probably what is was tuned on. What ecu is in the car?

You want to buy camshafts for the type R motor? That would be just a B series motor then.

so its got a refurbed b20 with a vtec head on it and... 13:1 compression?! Hell yeah you're gonna have to run premium. If you run one gallon of 87 through that bitch, its going to ping like you wouldn't believe. Do you plan on driving this beast everyday? thats alotta compression for a daily driver...

so what exactly is your question? earlier you made it sound as if more than one company made "type-R" cams("brand of type-r")... what I believe the tuner meant when he said that was that you should buy cams from a civic or integra type-r.... not aftermarket cams.

Did you buy this car wanting good gas mileage? Because with that setup, I highly doubt its going to happen, unless its had a really good tuner do a lot of partial-throttle tuning to it. That motor was built for racing, not grocery-getting.

also, if you plan on DDing this, you'll probably get tired of those 19inch monstrosities and those cheap-*** ebay seats pretty quickly. The ad never mentions what kind of suspension is on it, and the previous owner really seemed to love ebay, so my guess is its running stiff, bouncy ebay crap suspension too. And I'd be willing to bet all the money in my wallet that those wheels rub at full crank...

I highly doubt the first owner "tracked" it much, unless the second owner is the guy who put that awful, heavy, early 1990's-reminescent stereo in the back...

I'm not trying to be a dick here, I'm just warning you about what you've gotten yourself into. Take it from me, buying a modified honda can often times be a total nightmare. Theres entirely too many people out there modding these cars with absolutely no idea what they're doing.

oh no, not the Integra? Or are you just refferring to the Civic?

OP, also do a thorough check of whether its been in an accident or not. These cars are never really the same after an accident.
