Default I need help removing the fuel filter , 91 civic lx

I cannot figure how to remove the drivers side fittings, and what type of wrench works best. The service bolt is not the problem. The banjo bolt, has a fixed nut attached to it, on my model. The Haynes manual shows a picture of the fuel filter, but not with that fixed nut attached.
My question is, before i do any type of damage, what is the easiest way to remove this fitting. Do i need a wrench on the fixed nut AND the banjo bolt?.
Can i just use a 17 mm on the fixed nut , and turn that to remove the banjo bolt?
The banjo bolt is larger than a 19 mm, so what does it take a 20 mm or a standard size like a 3/4" open faced?.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

And 1 more important question, are all those fitting to be removed in a lefty- loosy, direction? maybe that is the problem, but i feel i am turning the wrench the correct way. If latching on to the fixed nut would remove the fitting, that would be great. Really haven't tried too hard to do it that way yet. I just don't want to cause any type of major damage.
