I just put a tach in my 05' civic DX 5spd, non-vtec,and was just wondering what the idle speed should be and what the red-line mark is ?? just to be sure i'm getting a correct reading.

 

I'd suggest consulting your manual, as it can vary between automatic and manual transmissions, though generally it will idle below 1000 while warm

 

is it a really big tach that glows all bright?

 

hahaha, no, its just a little one, i think its 2.75in.and its down by my other gauges like the speedometer. you know the little one that all advance and auto zones carry, its a sunpro with a white face. my car didn't come with a tach so i thought i'd put one in it to have a general idea of what the engine is doing. I really don't see what the purpose of a gigantic tach on the dash is going to help anyone. i know there for people who race but for an everyday driver, its alittle over kill. oh'well , i guess its personal preference. or maybe bad eye sight.............
