^^I drive it normally. I don't really baby it and sometimes I get on it. For awhile, I ran it with check engine light for over a year. I don't know if it was the oil changes that made it last that long. I replaced the clutch around 225,000 miles, the transmission(it was really noisy for about 2 years), and both axles @ 250,000 miles.

haha i remember a customer came in with a newer model toyota land cruiser with 15k miles on and no oil change ever...i was very surprised to see the oil wasnt very thick/sludgy. still, no good for the motor.

i know with the newer toyotas, its every 5k miles for an oil change, older models are still the typical 3k miles. newer hondas vary for their change period, some newer ones are every like 4.5k and others are every like 3.5K.

i believe all the big motor oil compaines are now pushing to use synthetic blends. part synthetic and part conventional oil. i believe the high-mileage motor oils are similar to thesynthetic blend.

The high mileage motor oils are PURE synthetics. They are NOT synthetic blends...and have approximately double the service life of a synthetic blend.

I remember when some girl I knew was amazed when I talked about getting an oil change. She said all she did was check the oil level and never had an oil change. She never heard of replacing the oil and sort of laughed because she also wondered why her motor blew up in her cars.

Sorry Live-4it....but my information is not wrong. It is absolutely correct, as the link you posted verifies. You attached a link showing Valvoline synthetic blend with a longevity of 7500 miles printed on the bottle...which is typical for synthetic blends. Go to your friendly Pep Boys, NAPA or Walmart and look at Mobile engine oilas an example. Mobile Clean 5000 (red cap) is convential oil, and guarantees protection for 5000 miles. Mobile Clean 7500 (blue cap) is a synthetic blend and guarantees protection for 7500 miles. Mobile 1 Extended Performance (gold cap) is a pure synthetic and provides guaranteed protection for 15000 miles. This is exactly the point I made in my previous post that you seemed to take issue with.

My used HX came dino oil and it's got 3700 miles and still looks good / I'll run it to 5000 miles, then I'll do a Synthetic Oil change. Will use Synthetic for 8000 to 12,000 miles. Next change willbe 2 qts Syntec, 1 qt Royal Purple, and 16 oz Hyperlube.

Synthetic changes at 3500 is just wasting oil!

might i ask WHY the mix of oils?
ive never heard of a oil mixture like that!
i just used all royal purple in my last oil change... i can understand the oil additive........

The manual for my 07 says to change the oil when the life indicator (based on engine conditions and revs) drops below 15% or at the very least before it reaches 0%. I went 6000+ miles before the first change.

There is no mention of miles between changes in the manual. If the manual says follow the indicator, I will follow the indicator. If it blows up, my ext warranty covers it till 100k. They would have hard time saying its my fault if I followed the manual.

I'm running Mobil1 in the car, and have 5000 miles with 40% to go. The percentage does drop faster as the miles pile up. It will probably come due between 6000 and 7000. Regardless, I'll probably change it around 7000.

As a side note, I had a '96 Accord that had the dino oil changed every 7500 miles per the manual (and the salesman, not that his opinion mattered that much). The car ran great when I sold it with 160k on it.

I don't know what your clarifying delaware you said "they're are no synthetic blend high mileage oils"??? Maybe I miss understood what exactly your trying to dignify your point about.... I still don't [sm=smiley25.gif]

Just to add it's all a matter of opinion in the end. It's like which kind of condom a guy likes to use, usually the first one you use, or the kind that hasn't broken on you yet is the kind YOU believe is the best. Am I right? Or I guess the kind your women preferslike ribbed or her pleasure. But there is the fact that things break down over time, like have you ever had sex for a long period of time and the condom becomes like a trashbag? All loose and stretched out. So you grab another one I'm sure you know all about that.
