1996 Honda Civic Ex performance help?
I have 150,000 miles on my Civic it is my commuter car, I would like the most performance I can get out of it without sacrificing the mpg. What part (exhaust, air filter, etc...) can you guys recommend and what brands?

well theres all types of aftermarket things you can buy depending on your budget.
hedman headers are like 120.00 or your can get a cheapy from the bay.
wires and caps can be upgraded for better spark. get a cap that uses an out side coild like MSD around 100 for cap, coil wire and the blaster coil.
as far has a filter K&N makes a drop in for your air box, price???you can do a short ram intake, or do a cold air intake.
like i said it all depends on your budget, and remeber you get what you pay for ok

Please take the time to use the search feature of this Forum. It's a great tool and I've been using it over and over to answer my questions. Try searching for these following simple mods:
I/H/E (intake, headers, exhaust)
CAI (or cold air intake)
SRI (short ram intake)
headers
cat-back
short shifter
That should get you started. Also take a look in the DIY section. Lots of great step-by-step instructions. I can only suggest that you pick up a Helm's manual for your car as well. It's a great resource. Something like 2000+ pages of careful instructions on how to fix, service, and remove any part on your car.
Welcome to HCF, and good luck.

There are drop in K&N air filters (which you just drop into your stock airbox where the white air filter is). very cheap around $5? It helps a little with performance, but not much imo.
Then there are short ram intakes (SRI), and cold air intakes (CAI). You have to remove your stock airbox and put on a tube with a filter on the end. Cold air intake'sare alonger tubeare more expensive. short ram is shorter use the 'search' icon above to learn more.

you should know that some people swear by brands and high-dollar items
others find that a cheap ebay SRI tube/CAI with a decent filter (AEM dri-flo, K&N, etc.) works just as good for what they do.
