Hello! My mom has been using a 2003 civic coupe EX as her daily driver since it was new, she has put a ton of miles on it (currently 224,000 miles) although they are almost all highway miles (she commutes about 50 miles total each day) the car has been well maintained with a few cosmetic exceptions, (dog chewed the parking break) the passenger seatbelt may need to be replaced, as would the keyless entry. That having been said, im curious if $2000 would be a fair price for me to take it off her hands? Im having it checked out by our trusted mechanic who has been servicing it. The oil has been changed at regular suggested intervals, as well as the timing belt, she has mentioned that the engine head gaskets were recently replaced as well. What does the civic forum think?

 

I think that sounds like a very fair price, considering you are her son. Edmunds and Kelly Blue Book estimate it being worth $4500-$5500, based on 120,000 miles and it being in good condition. So with it at over 200,000 miles(and many other parts will probably need to be replaced in the time that YOU own it), $2000 sounds really good, if she will accept that price.

Is there any rust on the body or undercarriage? I had a 1998 Civic once, and it had some rust on the body, and all over underneath... I live in Western New York, so we have lots of salt on the roads in the winter. I ended up needing to replace the brake and gas lines (brake line broke and wouldn't hold brake fluid). This was in 2010, so that civic was 12 years old.

Remind your mom that her civic is now 10 years old. Some parts will need to be replaced in the coming years. Tell her this is why $2000 is reasonable.
