I have a 2006 Civic coupe Ex model. I have noticed a groaning-type noise when the rpm is around 1500 and the transmission is in 3rd or 4th gear. Is this an indication of transmission problems?

You're "lugging" the engine. Do not cruise with that low an rpm. Select a lower gear to keep the engine speed above 2000.
