i have a 93 cx. Can i just put a universal muffler on their. the factory one that i can get for the car is 75 but a universal is only 25.

 

I closed your duplicate thread which was in the incorrect section.

A universal muffler will more than likely need to be welded to fit and will end up costing you more than $75 after labor etc. Is this universal muffler something aftermarket looking? If so, I bet you will hate the sound after 6 months.

If your plans are to just daily drive this car, just get something of OEM quality.

 

Yeah unless you have free labor, it's a lot easier to just pay $75 for the whole back section and bolt it on at the flange. If you do use a universal muffler use one of the OEM oval type ones, as the can ones are just loud and annoying.

My experience has been that once you have a hole somewhere, you should just replace everything after the cat converter as a group and be done with it. There is not going to be much life left in the other pipes either. The pipe from the manifold to the cat will last a long time though.

 

ok i guess il just buy the oem muffler it calls for and spend 10-20 bucks to have it welded on. I dont know why this car goes through so many mufflers. They all rust out to easily i swear this is my 10th one in the past 5 yrs.

 

You shouldn't need anything to be welded on. Are the mufflers developing physical holes? I don't think anyone will ever have to replace 10 mufflers in their lifetime. I have owned 3 Civics over the past 10 years and only had to replace one muffler due to a hole in the piping, but it had 140K on it and was ~12 years old.

As long as you get one for a hatchback (92-00), it should fit unless previous exhaust shops hacked up the pipe the axle back/muffler bolts to.

 

well the original last for over 200k. I was exaggerating about the 10 mufflers i think its been 2 thats ever been on there. i think this last one went bad bc the car sat for 2.5 yrs and prolly just rusted it. I recently put a new motor in it that has between 130-140k on motor so the acr should last me years to come. So my best bet would be to just buy the oem muffler and it should last the lifetime of the car. I was thinking somthing like this

Haha, I wasn't sure if you were exaggerating or not about the mufflers. Yea, after sitting for 2.5 years I am sure it just went bad, which is fairly normal IMO.

Anyways, the muffler you linked looks fine, but not as cost efficient if you care at all. The Bosal ones should be like $65 shipped and can be bolted on most likely. If the shops in the past did not hack up where the muffler bolts to the B pipe, then I am sure you can perform the install. The one you linked is ~$65 and then you have to pay a shop to weld it on. Am I looking at that correctly?

 

correct. the one i showed is a direct fit for the 92-95 civics. like you said if previous shop didnt mess up where it needs to be welded than my local welding shop only charged like 20 dollars. but if it needs some new piping and other stuff cost would be a little more.
