I'm kinda stressed trying to decide if this is a good perchuse or not. I don't really have the equipment to be able to do alot of engine work myself. If I can get him to sign a noterized warrantee that the engines not going to blow, it could be a fun car to start with. Plan for an engine swap to something DOHC like a B16. Is there much of a difference between the D15b and a DOHC engine??

 

^ a difference between a built/boosted d15 and a stock B-series? Not much of one (actually, I'd take the D over the B). But if you're comparing stock engines, the B will win any day. Why spend the $3k on a swap when you already have a built engine? Oh, and just so you know... you'll probably need to run synthetic oil and premium gas since the hatch is boosted.

 

Lol, thanks for the heads up. What about the difference between a boosted D and boosted B block? Why would you take a D series over a B series "any day"? You'd rather have a SOHC over a DOHC? Explain.

 

No, I meant I'd take a boosted D over a stock B any day . But really, I think the biggest differences between the D and B as far as boosting is that you can push more power on a stock-block B than you can a D.

 

B series engines are DOHC, whereas D series are SOHC. He was saying he would take a turbocharged D series engine OVER a stock B series engine. I have owned both. I had a D16Z6 in my car and had a greddy turbo kit on it. I ran it at 10 psi, but blew it up. Now I have a B18C which is a JDM GSR engine.......I like them both but the turbo D series had more TQ. Just realize, this car will run well but it wont last as long as a stock civic. I think its a good buy, because of whats in it. If you buy a stock civic in good shape it would cost you 3-4,000$. You can buy this turbo civic for a little more, BUT you have money hidden in parts. You wont get more for the car since its turbo, but you have a little insurance. Worst case here is that you buy it and in a few months the engine craps out/blows up. You can sell the turbo kit and good engine parts for enought $ to buy a new D15 to replace the blown one......and bam, your car is running again, but with lower mileage on the motor. All in all it SEEMS like a good deal.....but if it were me I would check a few things.....Id ask him if I could do a compression test on the cylinders to see how strong the engine is.....check the coolant for oil, and the oil for coolant.

Yeah, I'd like a mechanic to look at it, but its 4 miles away in Delray Beach, FL and I'd need a mechanic thats familiar with turbo setups. I'm pretty sure the guys at Pep Boys would **** a brick.

He says he's selling it for money for school, plus he just got a newer civic he's going to work on and cant handle 2 cars.
