Default 99 EX Civic Reliability, need i even ask??

Ok heres the deal. I'd like to think i know alot about imports in general, and especially Honda. The main that thing that i keep hearing is that they are outstandingly reliable under all conditions. I live in Michigan (cold winters/ mild summers). Basically, i got totally screwed over on the last car i bought (VW Jetta VR6), it was a very high maintenence, expensive car to keep on the road, especially as a daily driver. I plan on having a 99 EX civic as my daily driver, and only doing minor mods for now (untill i get my raise then i can go nuts). CAI, Cat-back, stablizers, wheels/tires. WIth these mods, i should still have a reliable daily driver shouldnt I??

I just bought a 95 Civic from the original owner who had the car in Canada for 9 years and it did great with the weather conditions...similar to Michigan's weather.

I am the original owner of my 97 ex. It has 196,000 miles on it now and I put all of them except the 7 miles it had when I bought it. I have done all the regular maintenance(fairly cheap especially if you do them yourself). I have had only 2 problems with my car. The head gasket went bad once, even though nothing was noticeably bad on it other than didn’t pass emissions. And the other problem was transmission bearings. Other than that it has been problem free. I got an AEM CAI, exhaust, neuspeed lowering springs, tokico shocks, wings west spoiler kit, strut bars, rear sway, and polyurethane bushings all within the 1st year. The car is a GREAT daily driver. I recently did the compression check and the all read between 179-182. The spec is somewhere between 135-185 or so. As you can see my car has a lot of life left in it. As long as it has been taken care of, regular maintenance, it should be one of the greatest cars you will ever own. I have had a lot of others before and during the time I had my civic, but non have ever come close to the reliability of it.

Holy "thread from the dead batman...

Thanks for the info though man. I'm loving my car so far. I've had it a month and half and so far i've gotten a Megan Racing catback exhaust, and a full set of strut bars. Everythings gone good so far, i look forward to many years of gratifying speed.

Some people tend to think that all imports are very reliable. NOT TRUE, they are taking advantage of Toyota's and Honda's reputation for reliability. VW's are known for being very expensive to keep on the road.
