I was in Ireland and auto trannys are non-existent. Gotta love those Irish for being men about there driving. I think the gas prices have something to do with it too.

That's why whenever you see someone like swerving off the road all the time, theyre usually driving an auto. When you pass them, they are usually like talking on their cell phone or tryin to get their kids in the back seat to sit still or shaving (yes i have seen someone shave and drive at the same time). In a manual, there isn't really much else you can do (in stop and go traffic at least) other then pay attention to your driving.

I agree completly. it keeps the drivers attention on what he's supposed to be doing: driving

is it really a question? having civics, and being into our civics enough to post on forums, we should all consider ourselves tuners, and therefore there should be no arguement whether to go auto or manual. its stick all the way!

Your not a true driver unless you can drive a stick, and about eating and drinkign and driving learn how to my girl hold onto my arm and lays her head on my shoulder I still shift, get skills, and my first car was a auto it had 220,000 miles and givin to me,on it I had rebuilt the tranny 3 times it cost 1200 each time unless you have a warranty that is crap thjough cause its only good for the first time, the second they dont want to waste there time, 5 spd or 4 or 6 whatever most likely all you need is a new clutch, not a big deal. tried racing my girlfriends car for the fun of it and it shifted before I got to redline,

o man, m yfather wouldnt let me drive unless i learned stick first. my honda is an auto but it wasnt my choice... im not complaining too much about it tho. yes, i prefer manual. I would like to have a manual 2000 745i sport BMW. But I have never found one and cant afford one at this point in time anyway. They do exist though.

I have a manual four speed in my 91 hatch, and am making plans for swaps, so I'd appreciate the info. Are they a worthwhile choice?
Naw man, 4K rpms at 85 mph is a nightmare to hear when you're redline is like 6,200. Definitely go with the engine swap and 5 speed for sure. I got low miles on my engine so I'm just going to ride it out and when the engine goes, then I'll get a 5 speed along with a fun engine.

but four speed mannys suck. the gears are longer and farther apart. and worse gas mileage. stay away
Yeah, the gears are miles apart and a short shifter would be a good idea at some point. As for the gas mileage, I hope you're saying it's worse than five speeds, and not bad in general because I'm loving my 28 to 35 mpg.

For all you camry guys, if you want a manual the one out of a Solara fits. Research it and you shall find. As far as auto vs. manual...when I wnet shopping for cars I knew there was gonna be no auto in my driveway for a while. I just got tired of poor gas milage and a weak point that always breaks when u need it most.
Some camrys come stock with 5spd transmissions. One of my co-workers had one, and I also saw a newer one parked by my college. In fact, I think that transmissions from celicas would work since they share the the same engines (not the 6cyl one though.)

Automatics will always be superior to manuals in high horsepower\low quarter mile cars. Computer s dont screw up shifts and shift times. I would much rather have a 4-speed hydramatic tranny from a Pontiac grand prix GTP then a 5-speed. But yes, for our low horsepower daily drivers, the 5-speed is more fun, and will give more "go"
