Default B16A2 civic - reliable?

Hi,
I recently bought a 1994 EG CivichatchbackB16A2 VTi, and had much fun this evening seeing what it could do. How reliable are these things for long term running withthe odd bitof 8500rpm?Can i expect it to be Honda reliable when its taken to these rpmsfrequently? Iwill ofcoursechange the oiland fluidsat the correct mileage intervalsand change parts withintheir specified mileage/life while i ownit, taking care with the servicing.I can imagine the gearboxes take a hammering, i noticed it didnt like block shifting up or down, it hadto be very carefully treated. It did not like going from 8500rpm in 3rd gearstraight into 5thgear (slight crunch), nor from 4th at 3500rpminto 2nd gear (heavy juddering). It runs very nicelyother than thatand i think power is right on the mark, it feels fast. What are your opinions on these?

well redlining every gear, all day, everyday will be bad for it, but every now then is doable. I imagine the engine was swapped in, and if the engine is running fine and the swap was done correctly, all should be well

Use good oil, like synthetic. Change the tranny fluid too, maybe try GMs synchromax.

it was not swapped considering he said VTi (remember, he's probably not in the U.S.)

as for the reliability, come on, it's a honda.

Yeh its a UK VTi which has the B16A2 as standard. Ive put STP with the engine oil and ive put the specified 10w40oil in the gearbox. Its recently had a full fluid change and a load of new parts after i bought it. I think i need to be gentle with the gearbox and the syncromesh, hence no block shifting at high rpms. Its not everyday that i push the car to peak power, only ahandful oftimes a week. Ive not hit the rev limiter yet and i dont plan on it, i shift as soon as i can after 7600 as that is the peak output
