tachs, or a Tach, actually means Tachometer, all it does is tell you what RPM's you're running at. Some cars have 'em, some cars don't, but you dont need anything special to use one. With a manual transmission, a tach will help you to determine when to shift to get the most power out of your engine. My car is a civic EX with the stock max HP rated at 6800rpms, so thats when i shift if i'm racing. However, to conserve gas, while driving around town i usually shift at about 3000rpms.

Air intakes feed your engine more air, quicker. A CAI, or Cold Air Intake will help cool that air down, and force more into the combustion chamber for a bigger spark, which creates power. I just installed my CAI, and it doesnt really feel like a power increase, however, the power gets to the wheels a lot quicker. THere is almost no lag in between my shifts now, which is defintiely nice.

Basically the first thing you should do, is determined by what you want your ride to do. I like to ride smooth, and quick into and out of turns, so the first thing i did was put a full strut bar system on my car to reduce body roll.

So if you plan on dragging the car all the time, beef up the engine. If its your daily driver, stick to decent power increasing parts, and ride comfortability. Hope this helps!

i think i have like 130 stock hp, and with air intake and exchaust i was thinking i would be around 150 or so, what else could i do to gain 20 or so? i might sound dumb and all but thats how i'm thinking about it, thanks for mentacing struts i will prolly add that to my wish list lol

if you have an EX, then you have 127 stock horse, and i don't think an intake and exhaust is going to get you to 150. A common misconception in the "tuning" field, is that every upgrade adds significant horsepower, this would be nice, but its defintily not the case. I have a Megan Racing Cat-Back exhaust, and an AEM CAI, and i KNOW i'm not up to 150. Granted i still need to do the header and highflow cat, all of this will probly give me 15 horse at the most. Every part has its advantages tho, like i mentioned about the intake making the shift lag go away.

Chop away at it man, power gains will come little by little.

Just to add to what Forty said, you don't need a tach if you have an Automatic tranny.
