Default Breaks question

I'm hearing a lot of squeeling while driving (basically anytime the car isn't in park). Do I most likely need to replace my brake pads or more than that? Also, how much does it typically cost to replace break pads? I have a 2006 Honda Civic and I'm at ~42,000 miles. Thanks for your help.

brake pads prices vary, but you can find a good set for like 50 bucks. OEM imitation sets are like 15 bucks.

is it only while braking or while driving all the time?
the brake pads have built in squealers to let you know they are too low and need replacement.
easiest way to know is to look at the amount of meat on the pads.

i'm talking about the ones you would get from advance auto parts
not like ebay no-name brand
i'm sure if they were dangerous, advance auto parts wouldn't sell them...
