Subarus are the only cars which MAY have even slightly better reliabilty than Honda. They also have the "Boxer" engine which works the same as Vtec. Subaru and Honda seem to entering a price war in Canada at least. Subarus' resale value is almost as good as Honda's. Mazdas are.. fussy, frequently sounding like they'e about to blow their engine though that's how they are SUPPOSED to sound. I would never purchase a Mazda. Considering they're owned by Ford, it's a big no-no.

I'm considering hanging on to and redoing the 1990 Honda. Except for some rust, a broken water pump,and a bent trailing arm it's been well-maintained and is certifiable. Or maybe I'll sell it to a certain party and use the money for performance tires for the Si.

I lived in Japan for over 3 years and all they drive over there are Toyotas so that should say something about them. If you dont like the Mazdas then you have never heard of or seen a Mazdaspeed 3 or 6. OMFG what a beast of a car... one test drive and you will cream your pants.
Are you kidding me? The Corolla and the civic are nearly exact... as for lasting longer the Corolla is tops in its class.
you are comparing an Si Civic with a base Corolla? Do you know how stupid you sound right now... one is 15k and built for economy, there other is 22k and built with performance in mind. Take the blinders off one of these days and you'll see. And the Si gets 29 MPG, the Corolla is close to 36.

i test drove a corolla s and all it has is looks it drives like ****. as for the civic you cant go wrong with it. for one it'll last waaaaaaaaaaaay longer. then i drove the 07 and i was blown away spend the extra money and get the civ. cant ever go wrong with a honda.

Had a speed 3...like my si better. Sorry Polo, not trying to rain on anyones parade...just my 2 cents. I like your views on FI though. I have read several of your comments about a S/C and I think you have convinced me to get one, when I get some miles on my car.

There really isn't a Civic Si equivalent for the Corolla. There is a Corolla S and some of the older models were sporty but from what I've seen at autos.yahoo.com, the Corolla S uses the same engine as the other corollas. The only difference is that the Corolla S has a spoiler, body/lip kit, and a sunroof.

But IMO, the Civic does look way better.

yeah, they made the XRS for 1 year only... 2005. Its basically the new I-VTEC and its actually quicker than the Celica GT-S but that doesnt say much. The newest XRS version to be released looks like a slug though. Basically the powerplant from the Scion Tc. Nothing too impressive like the Si is pushing out.
To each his own, not really taking sides since I have a Corolla and a new Si but Toyota is better than Honda when it comes to value, reliability and economy. When it comes to everyday performance Honda definitely has the edge but Toyota doesnt seem to care about it much for whatever reason. And comparing a base Corolla and a base Civic in performance terms is just laughable. When you are running 17s in the quarter who cares about half a second. But the Si over an XRS anyday of the week. Base to base... its all in the eye of the owner.

Good job on your Corolla Brian, you've managed to make it look pretty badass, and you can probably back it up pretty well if it's supercharged. I like.
*Edit* Forgot to add that the only thing I don't like about the new Civics is the digital cluster. Seems to me it would be annoying, especially driving at night, to have the numbers constantly changing causing a sort of strobe effect. Obviously not actual flashes, but I dunno, just bothers me. I like a nice smooth analog gauge, and I hope they bring them back, or at least have the option to make the cluster display a digital image of an analog gauge if that's the way they're going.

Yeah definitely Props to you Polo...I was looking at your pics earlier (for your corolla). You need to put a S/C on that SI so I can see what you do. Again, you seem like you know a lot about superchargers and I think thats the way I want to go whenI am ready. I know I am going to ask you a Sh** load of questions when I am ready since you seem to be S/C all the way.

my first Civic was turbocharged... it was a monster of a car, but seemed like it was always breaking. well over 400hp but about as reliable as a track car can be. It was meant to be a high powered daily driver but headache after headache and deploying overseas for 6 years turned me to finally sell it. Now I enjoy the reliability of the s/c setup and absolutely love the whine of a supercharger. Turbos are great, but on a 4 cylinder motor when you start to push some high numbers its just not as reliable as some would think. For track use its a different story, but to rely on one as a daily A to B is just not reasonable.
3 years in Japan and 3 years in Italy took me through a ton of cars but a steal of a deal and zero tax for a Corolla through military sales wouldnt let me pass on it. Then I found that TRD made a supercharger for it and the deal was sealed. Im a Mustang lover at heart which sounds weird... but the Corolla is a great car. Havent had a single problem. Not a single one in 4 years and its been boosted since about 4,000 miles. Now im back to the Civic SI. My wife has an SUV which is raping us in gas so she wanted to get a 4 door. I talked here into looking at the 4DR SI's and she fell in love with it. We will drive that whenever we go out so its basically my second car. Im just trying to express that there is no real different between the civic and the corolla when you compare equal models. Its all in what you want. I hate seeing ppl put down the Corolla saying its crap when its basically the same. Same on my Corolla forums... when ppl start to knock the civic its a bit funnny and I find it gets old quick.
Thanks for the comments. I like it since its rare... dont see too many modded Corollas let alone one that is supercharged. Mine is debadged so I constantly get asked what it is. When I say its a Corolla their jaw drops.
In the US now... the reliability of Hondas, Toyotas, and even Fords are the best. Fusion is actually ranked higher than the civic and corolla in a few magazine test drives which goes to show that Ford has really turned things around. Ford and Toyota are working together in the US market to produce great cars. Did you know that the frame and suspension of the new Tundra is that of a Ford?? Truck of the year and its basically a Ford. Chevy and Pontiac are rated the worst but Ford has stepped up big.
