d16Y8 engine?
i have a 98 civic EX with a (d16Y8) i think thats a vtec? anyway it through a rod out the side of the block. where would be a good place to get a used engine? and could i use any 1.6 d16 short block and just use the old head?

Yup, the Y8 is a vtec engine. For a used one, you should be able to pick up a d16y8 or d16z6 (the predecessor to the y8) long block on Craigslist for $500 or under. I can tell you right now a junkyard is going to ask at least double that.
But yes, your head will fit on any D-series engine with no modification.

guys he has a 98, it has the crank position sensor, ya know the thing that the obd1 doesnt have. you can make a obd1 block work but for less hassle just find a d16y7 or d16y8 block and put your head on it,.

Can't he then just not drive for more than 5,000 miles per year and get an "exempt" sticker? Just saying... if he is in PA.
Yea, I understand it might sound dumb, but it was something I have been wondering about.
