Ecu tuning for boost d16y7
Hey everyone, so I purchased a 97 honda civic coupe a while back with intention to boost it. And since then I've found out that it has already been boosted before. I found an oil drain line hanging from the drain pan exactly where I would have put it. Blocked off of course. Although my real question lies in is the tune still on the ecu. My car cuts out a 5.5k like its hitting rev limiter. Almost like it's on a launch control setting or something. It does need a tps adjustment as well.
Isn't it possible that the previous owners had taken the ecu apart and installed a chip and a datalogger? I know that is common amongst savvy budget builders.
The factory ECU is OBD2. "Chips" cannot be install on such ECUs. If the ECU is not OBD2, my guess is that the PO installed an OBD1 (P28 is the popular option), and installed a chip such as Hondata. I'd be surprised if the PO went through the trouble of removing the entire turbo system, but not the ECU which had the tune on it.
The ECU should be behind the passenger kick panel. Go check it out. There are many guides out there to help figure out what you have.
