i drive a 1998 honda civic hx and live in minnesota and it gets very cold here in the winter. i was wondering if anyone had any links to engine block heaters and also if anyone knew how to install them or could link it for me. thank you so much!

 

Use a generic one from a parts store. I think it would work to plumb it into the U-shaped bypass hose on the back of the engine. This hose is the same size as the heater hoses but it just makes a loop and doesn't go to the heater. Mount the block heater on the firewall and remove the bypass hose, install two new hoses from where it was to the in and out of the block heater.

 

ive never heard of this.. isnt heat an engines enimy??

It's an electric heater to keep the engine relatively warm while the car is parked in very cold weather. It plugs into house current. Before driving off, you unplug it. The advantage is easier starting, the heater works sooner after driving off, and the engine doesn't suffer as much because of very cold, stiff oil.

 

and a bit better mpg's at least in big rigs i drive em they won't even start sometimes without a block heater some have 2 heaters one on the block one on the tranny(aftermarket)

 

do any of u know where i can find a diagram of it? am i gunna need new hose or what?

hah no man, in fridgid cold weather you need to keep the block warm so it will start, it's not like it makes the block boiling hot or anything, just keeps it at a temperature that makes it conducive to starting.
