Is this a fair deal on a 96 DX Hatch???
I found a 96 DX Civic Hatchback with 116,000 miles. Stock, few minor dings, otherwise straight body, clean "Non Stinky" interior & clear title previous 2 owners where not smokers. Drives well, engine and tyranny feel tight - no tyranny whine. Unfortunately it's on a used car lot and the owners manual is missing and it has no maintenance records at all. All 4 tires need to be replaced.
Dealer has it marked at $4995 - I already offered $2800, last week, to the Jr. Salesman and he said no. LOL! The other pending deal fell through. Anyhow the car will be going up for auction soon. It's been sitting on the lot for over 2 months. Can you believe they had it listed for $8995!
Excellent Blue book is $4000 good is right around $3500 fair condition is $2900. Anyhow I plan on showing up with $3200 cash in the next few days. With sales tax I will be at just around $3400 Then I need to put new tires on it then replace the timing belt & water pump possibly crank & cam seals, adjust valves, spark plugs, air cleaner, oil & filter, fuel filter etc. Basically $500+ in tires, parts and my time $.
Should I move on or test the patience of the sales manger I think I'm being fair?!?
What would You Do?

RE: Is this a fair deal on a 96 DX Hatch???
If you are willing to risk it, often it can pay off if you wait as long as possible before showing up again. If they see you have alot of interest in it they are less willing to deal.
Personally I would try to wait at least a week before I were to go back and give them another offer. Like I said though, this is risky, it could sell before you go back. Anywho, good luck with the sale.

yeah, i dont know about you, but civic's sell for a lot more than they're worth around where i live. The price is artificially inflated by the demand for them.

i got my 97 hatch for 4800, manual, 71K, all stock, new tires, body was in ok shape and interior was excellent. I actually think the prices of these cars went up like the nissan 240's.

I was just saying that I got my 96 ex coupe with 110,000 for 4k and it was a STEAL. Everyone in the city was asking about 5k for dx. Not saying his price is fair or not, just thats whats going on in austin.

96 Hatch already went to auction as of yesterday. Honcho salesman said the lowest amount they would take is $4700 If they don't get a decent price at auction it may come back. I will call on Friday to check. I doubt it will work out. Will take a small miracles to pull this off.
