Default Friend selling me civic, want some input.

I have a buddy of mine from work selling an '01 Civic LX coupe(automatic).

Stock, 96k miles, black leather interior, never been in an accident, not abused...so on.

He just told me he'll give it up for $4k...thinking of asking him to leave it at $3,500

What you guys think?

I think it is a good deal... I checked on KBB.com for ya.

Excellent - $6,090
Good - $5,590
Fair - $4,965

Judging by just numbers and prices, it looks to be a good deal. I would suggest to ask him about the timing belt/water pump (basically 100,000 mile maintenance).

i would go for it, people can always be talked down, so you might as well low ball him and then work up from there.

Its automatic, which in reality i probably prefer. Living in Miami with constant traffic doesn't leave much enjoyment for manual.

I really dont like this generation body, I prefer the previous body(97-00) but i just see it as a really good deal. I realize that I know exactly what Im getting, not like buying from a stranger who more than likely drove the car hard..

my rule personally is to never buy a vehicle from a friend. What if he did drive it hard? what if **** starts going wrong with the car after you purchased it. That kind of thing can really tarnish a friendship. It's a lot easier to deal with when the person is a stranger compared to someone who you're close to.

The '01s are fugly.

Otherwise it's a decent asking price.
